Hard as it may seem to believe, the Top 16 contestants actually have a life outside of living and breathing music. As matter of fact, the lads and lasses have some pretty interesting loves, pet peeves and hobbies that they indulge in when they’re not scaling notes and tackling transitions.

With the Top 16 boys kicking off the live performances this Sunday, we decided to take a little peek into their lives and see what they get up to when they’re not wowing us with their spectacular vocals.

Mthokozisi

Turns out the silky-voiced young star is a huge Samthing Soweto fan. This, though doesn’t come as much of a surprise as both are phenomenal singers in their own right but who would have guessed Samthing could bring Mthokozisi to tears as well. Maybe we’ll see a collaboration by the two soon.

Sandile

Sandile the Singer or Sandile the Techy? Not only does Sandile have pipes for days, the vocalist also has the intellect to match. When he’s not crafting creative riffs on his guitar he's hard at work at the IBM Research Africa offices. Could this be what you get when you mix Bill Gates with a smooth singing voice?

Thato

Looks like Thato would have been just as comfortable auditioning for BayWatch alongside Idols. Postmasburg’s star has clearly been putting in the hours at the gym. Will we perhaps get an Usher moment come lives and get a ripped shirt or two?

Niyaaz

Honorouable member of the Beard Gang, Niyaaz clearly doesn’t skip his days at the gym. The budding independent artist is just as big on working out as he is on high notes and harmonies.

King B

Photoshoot fresh! King B clearly loves the camera just as much as he loves the microphone. We’re definitely looking forward to seeing more of his fashion sense and how it matches that larger than life personality.

Victor

Move over music and make way for the selfie king! Victor clearly isn’t shy striking a pose for the camera and we’re here for it! Plus, you can never go wrong with a little pout here and there!

Lincoln

Singer, dancer and now model too? The Western Cape’s Lincoln is effortlessly photogenic and beautifully at ease in front of the camera just as he is singing for your votes.

Mnqobi

At a time when almost everyone has a phone in their hand and is “doing it for the gram”, Mnqobi is undoubtedly the most off-the-grid contestant yet. Would you believe he only sent out his first-ever tweet a month ago? We’re sure the fan love will change all that soon enough though.
