It's little wonder why the author of South Africa's best-selling Hip Hop album has been busy lately. We'd be thoroughly BOOKED if we'd gone 7 x Platinum too. That said, Kwesta still found time to come on board and perform the song that has become Telkom's anthem and one of the most endearing tracks of the year, 'Spirit'. We can honestly say the screaming and applause during his performance was some of the loudest we've heard from the Idols crowd all season. What's more, when you take a moment to mull on the message of this song you can see why everyone in the Theatre or watching from home felt so connected to what was unfolding.
Being the biggest platform for talent in the country we had to find out from Kwesta what the secret to success is and he stressed severally that authenticity is key. "People you work with will give you all sorts of ideas about how to do stuff. Maybe you must take that advice? - but in all of that, don't forget to incorporate yourself." One look at the star's catalogue and it's clear he's man who champions what he preaches because nothing about his look, subject matter or sound resembles what anyone else in the game is doing.
His brand new track 'Vur Vai' dropped last week and it's an anthem about feeling yourself nomatter the space you find yourself in, something we feel continues in this tradition of standing in your truth. Feel free to download or stream it asap but not before you lend an ear to our guest star to see what other gems he had to share when we caught up backstage.
