Ultimate Comic has been a source of great entertainment and many ‘firsts’ in the world of Kenyan comedy. However, as much as things have changed, some things remain the same.
Focus is on the aesthetic/costumes we have seen from the contestants! It is indeed a mystery why Kenyan or perhaps African comedians feel the need to go the whole ‘9 yards’ with their performances! This refers to use of costumes that alienate them from their authentic personalities. Are costumes relevant in the world of Stand Up comedy? We can understand one or two props. Is full regalia necessary?
We saw the Nakuru Stress Doctors and Lucy Wanjiru (Mwende) successfully pull off their ‘get up’. Some were not so lucky!
Stand up comedy is more about successfully transporting one’s authentic sense of humor to an audience. One’s unique style tends to disappear under old school uniforms, hats and grandpa pants.
