He's talented, he's controversial, he's the Lingala Legend. Most of our fathers and uncles listened to Koffi, so most of us are pretty familiar with the impact his music had on the better part of our generation. Remember the 'shaky leggi' sessions on Metro FM every Saturday afternoon? What about 'Kass Kass' on telly every evening from school? The memories are real people!
Yet despite the many years in passing, Koffi has managed to stay relevant in a time where music is like rising smoke; one day surrounding the air, the next vanishing into nothingness and forgotten. Koffi maintains the status quo.
Actually did you know Koffi's real name is ''Antoine Christophe Agbepa Mumba?'' Quite a mouthful isn't it? And apart from that little bit of info, we have some exciting news: Nairobi will get a chance to host this iconic musician next week, at the 11th edition of the Koroga Festival.
Organised by the Capital FM team, the Koroga Festival has inspired musical talent from all over Africa, with notable performances from great artists like Senegalese’ Baaba Maal, South Africa’s Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Mi Casa Music as well as Congolese rumba musician Papa Wemba.
Local talent has also been showcased with recent songstress Mayonde and Suzanna Owiyo, Webi and sweethearts Sauti Sol leading the way to great homegrown entertainment.
Koffi will be joined by Gogosimo and Makadem.
It's going down on Sunday 13th March at the Arboretum Gardens. Advance tickets are available for Ksh 2,000/= on Ticketsasa. Entry is free for kids under 12 years of age.
