Caroline Kattee was a guest on Pambio Live recently. We asked her a few questions in an attempt to get to know her better – and this is everything we learned about this talented gospel star.
Give us a little background about yourself
I attended three primary schools; Elite Junior school, Riverbank Academy and completed my primary education at 91 Municipality Primary School, all located in Nyahururu. I later attended Gatero Girls High School for a term and a half before transferring to Graceland Girls Senior School where I completed my A levels. I then enrolled at the Coast National Polytechnique where I studied Tourism Management and graduated in 2014 with a diploma.
What’s your music history?
As a child, I adored music and all the comfort that came with it. Music beautified my childhood and created lasting memories. Apart from my gift and the ability to sing at an early age, I met Mr. Gikwa, a talented primary school teacher who ignited my passion for music. I admired his passion for music and his vast knowledge. Unfortunately, I didn’t last long in the school because of financial challenges. However, music continued to keep me sane and I love how it brought us together as a family. It became a dream of mine for my songs to impact other families in the same way.
How did you get into music and where do you get your inspiration to create it?
I officially got into music as a recording artist when I met a certain producer through my sister. In 2015 I recorded my first song “Blessed” which I never released. Recording in an actual studio gave me hope for growth and sparked my interest in creating music further. My influence and inspiration is God’s word, the mentors I have met along the way, as well as my personal experiences. The impact I yearn to make through my songs also drives me – and although I make contemporary gospel music, I do not limit my music to a specific genre.
Which of your songs do you love performing and why?
I would say every one of my songs is special in its own way and I enjoy ministering through all of them. They all came with their season and testimony.
How many singles have you released and co-written?
I have released four singles and co-written two songs. I have collaborated with artists on certain songs that have not been released yet. I always wanted to minister alongside Kaberere. In future, I dream of collaborating with Sinach and Eunice Njeri.
Any career highlights or achievements so far?
My most memorable is receiving an award at the Talanta Awards in the United States of America for my song “Free” back in 2018
What’s your favourite bible verse?
Romans 8:38-39: ‘For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord’.
