There’s nothing we love more than a high-energy, inspirational gospel performance and this week, we’re in luck because talented gospel star Jose Jay will be visiting the Pambio Live set.

About Jose

Jose Jay, born Joseph Japheth was born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya. He was raised in the church by his mother who is a pastor and is the 5th child out of 6 children. Jose Jay attended several schools in Nairobi including Eastleigh Airport Primary School and Tumaini Primary School, then joined Peter Kibukosya High School and later finished off his schooling at Georges High School in Nairobi CBD. Jose Jay started singing at the tender age of 8. He started performing with his siblings at home and in 2013 he recorded his first song “Narejea”.

Awards and accomplishments

Jose has participated in several singing competitions. In 2019, he won first runner up on KTN’s I Can Sing Season 2. He has been nominated for several awards in Kenya, including Extreme Awards, FEMA Awards and Maranatha Awards. His music is inspired by Bible events and everyday events that occur around him. He describes his music as ‘urban gospel’ because he makes his songs using the latest beats and vibes, but still maintains authenticity in his lyrics, which preach the gospel. He credits the Holy Spirit for leading him during his performances, as he has often performed when he has been at a low point in his life and the Holy Spirit has always guided him. He further quotes Psalms 23 v 1-6 as his all-time favourite scripture.

This incredible musician reckons he is where he is today as a result of hard work and amazing collaborations. His latest music video was done in collaboration with another up-and-coming artist, Solomon Mukubwa. His dream collaborations include Mr Seed, Guardian Angel, Moji Shortbaba, Size 8 and Masterpiece.

Jose Jay continues to take the Kenyan gospel scene by storm – and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
