County 49, another Showmax Original, recently launched on Maisha Magic Plus and has kept fans talking. Each character in the show brings an interesting dynamic to the series and is divided into two distinct groups. On one hand, a handful of them fight for a united democratic society, while on the other hand, the majority of them just to look at their own interests.

Here is some information about each of the characters. As you read them, try to identify which side they are on.

Malik Maka

Malik is a fallen hero, trying to make amends for his past mistakes. He is a brilliant marksman who is quite resourceful but egotistical. He has committed several atrocities under the service of ex-governor Okusimba.

Okusimba ‘Ox’ Marara

He has a big family that he supports and is the embodiment of corruption itself. He is funny, and charming, but brutal when someone turns against him. Okusimba is also a loving man towards his wife and children. He will give his own life for their well-being. Ox is also charismatic and strategic and is always one step ahead of his game.

Governor Nerima Mkung

She is a powerful, straight-talking, take-no-nonsense kind of woman, in the vein of Mekatilili Wamenza, but capable of more warmth. She is a profoundly ethical person, but she is not naïve. She is not judgmental; she is fiercely committed to making a better life for her citizens. Although she has a motherly attitude towards everyone who works for her, she’s sharp-tongued and tough.

Elijah

Elijah is a young activist who actively got involved in the fight against the dictatorship of one-party rule. He however ended up in the torture chambers and when he came out, all his comrades had not only forgotten about him, but they had joined the very corrupt government they were fighting against.

Debrah Limo – Maka

She is Malik’s wife and the Governor’s chief of staff. She uses these titles depending on where she is. She is sometimes nicknamed the traitor’s wife due to her husband’s involvement with Okusimba

Senjen

He is a very committed chief of security in the governor’s office. He is always willing to go the extra mile to do his job. He suffers from an inferiority complex, something that he has fought since his childhood. No matter how hard he tries, Senjen feels there is always someone better than him.

Moran

He is Malik and Deborah’s son. In the beginning, he was overly eager to walk in his father’s footsteps but later realised that the price of being a hero is too high to pay.
