East London’s Frere Hospital serves some of the country’s most desperate communities. When Carte Blanche visited the hospital in 2011, children were being operated on in under-resourced adult theatres while an abandoned operating theatre suite was being used as a storage facility. Funded by the Carte Blanche Making a Difference Campaign, the hospital now boasts two new state of the art dedicated paediatric operating theatres complete with Recovery and Nurses stations, management offices, sterilisation rooms and more. Aired on 7 Dec 2014.
