Reyka is interview by Claire Mawisa on Carte Blanche. She shares her story, hoping to inspire confidence and comfort in others going through the same trauma, but soon finds herself overwhelmed from reliving the past.

I left feeling validated as a South African that a group of indigenous people, who had previously felt dismissed and forgotten in our recorded history, were finally seen and acknowledged in such a powerful way.

It’s SONA week and we’re certain many South Africans aren’t too bothered about even watching the whole affair. But with a potentially life-altering election looming, this might be the most important SONA in years… No spark was found, but a recent lacklustre report on the 2021 July riots certainly sparked controversy.
