On the night of 20 August 2020, shortly after midnight, a truck driving along the N12 West near Alberton was struck from behind by a black BMW reportedly travelling at high speed. While not serious - the truck sustained no damage while the BMW had scrape marks on the passenger side and a broken mirror - witness statements claimed that the driver of the luxury vehicle was former Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina. Carte Blanche approached Mr Masina for more info on the incident. Below is his full response.ย

In reference to our telephone conversation on 2nd February 2022 at 12h21, I (Carte Blanche Producer Kate Barry)ย confirm that we are producing a story which refers to your motor vehicle accident on the N12 West which occurred on 20th August 2020. We would appreciate your response to the following:
Were you driving under the influence of alcohol on the night of the accident?
No. I was not under the influence on the night of the incident.ย
Why were you driving the EMPD VIP Protection Unit vehicle without permission?
I was not driving EMPD VIP vehicle instead I was driving a car allocated to me as a Mayor at the time. Thatโs my tool of trade permitted in law.ย
Why were you violating the curfew? ย
I never violated curfew I was from home where my aunt had just passed on same day, which was the reason I had just left my house (Meyersdal) to my home (Katlehong) which is literally 15 minutes away.ย
As I said, when we spoke the matter is before the courts and I would not like to expand further as Iโll ventilate all other evidence before the courts.ย
I honestly thinkย your channel is falling into the trap of gossip to an extent of calling an incident an accident.ย
However as a Democrat, I will subject myself to public scrutiny as you so wish.ย
When the story broke, allegations were made that there was no statement from me and the other party etc.ย
Iโll watch and brief my lawyers on this as well including sharing my response to them.
