Carte Blanche

So, you may have noticed a funny little square on your screen while watching Carte Blanche on M-Net channel 101. If you're left wondering what exactly that's all about, we're here to explain and ensure you're ready for the next one. Introducing QR codes - an engaging way to help you access even more online content and augment the way you watch our stories! So, how exactly do they work? Grab your phone and let's get scanning!

They look like little square mazes, but QR codes are actually more like fancy barcodes. Quick Response (QR) codes store loads of data that can be accessed instantly when they're scanned with a mobile device. Most modern phones come with a built-in QR scanning function, making it easier than ever to engage with our online content.

  1. Open your phone's camera app.
  2. Point your phone at the QR code. Make sure the entire square fits inside the frame. There's no need to take a photo.
  3. Wait a few seconds for a notification to pop up. It will either ask you to tap on the QR code scanning button, or it will ask whether you wish to open a link.
  4. Once you've successfully scanned the QR code, you will automatically be taken to the specific content on our website.

If your device doesn't successfully scan the code, you will need to go to your camera settings to ensure QR scanning is enabled.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Camera.
  3. Find "Scan QR Codes" and ensure it's enabled.

  1. Open your phone's camera app.
  2. Point your phone steadily at the QR code for a few seconds. Your phone will automatically detect the QR code and display a link.
  3. A notification will appear asking whether you wish to follow the website link.

If nothing happens, you may need to install a QR scanning app.

  1. Google Lens
  2. QR Code & Barcode Scanner (for older Android devices)

Below is the same QR code you spotted during our show on 18 September 2022. See if you can get your phone to take you to our Carte Blanche: The Podcast episode.

  • Ensure your phone is fully updated
  • Make sure your phone's brightness is high enough to clearly show the QR code.
  • Clean your camera lens.
  • Keep your phone upright and still.
  • Find the right distance to ensure the QR code is in focus.
