With the local government elections set to take place on Monday 1 November 2021, it's important to know who is vying for your votes in your district. Not only does this ensure you make an informed decision when casting your vote, but it also helps you become more involved in your direct community and various service delivery matters.

Thankfully, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has made it easier than ever before to locate your local representative. And, once the votes have been tallied post-election day, you can easily check in to see who your new representative is.

Simply visit the IEC's Who Is My Ward Councillor website, fill out the relevant info and you'll be given a complete list not only of your ward councillor's contact info, but also whether and where you are registered to vote.

Alternatively, you can SMS your ID number to 33245 at a cost of R1.00 per SMS and your nearest representative's details will be sent to you.

Unsure whether you're registered to vote on 1 November? You can SMS your ID number to 32810 and information regarding your voter status and your voting station will be provided.

For more info on current ward councillors, you can visit the IEC's website
