The Godfather is one of the most iconic films of all time, and in the decades since its release, plenty has been written and said about it – but never like this.

The making of Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 classic is now the subject of The Offer, a limited series that premiered on M-Net (DStv channel 101) on Monday 2 May at 22:30, just days after its US debut on Paramount+, Paramount’s streaming service.

The Offer is based on Oscar®-winning producer Albert S Ruddy’s extraordinary, never-before-seen story of making The Godfather. The limited series stars Miles Teller (Whiplash) as Albert S Ruddy, whose experience is the basis of the series; Matthew Goode (A Discovery of Witches) as studio exec Robert Evans; Dan Fogler (Fantastic Beasts) as director Coppola; Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) as Al’s assistant Bettye McCartt; Colin Hanks (Impeachment: American Crime Story) as the man with the money, Barry Lapidus; Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete) as real-life mafia don Joe Colombo; Burn Gorman (The Man in High Castle) as industrialist Charles Bluhdorn; and Patrick Gallo (The Irishman) as Godfather author Mario Puzo.

The 10-episode series was created and written by Oscar- and Emmy®-nominated writer Michael Tolkin (Escape at DannemoraThe Player) and also written and executive produced by Nikki Toscano (Hunters), who also serves as showrunner. The pilot episode was directed by Rocketman’s Dexter Fletcher.

Named the second-greatest film in American cinema history by the American Film Institute, Coppola’s classic is about family, honour, revenge, and pride, and the new series following Al Ruddy’s experience of making the game-changing movie is sure to keep M-Net viewers riveted week after week.

With the recent 50th anniversary of The Godfather – M-Net Movies 2 (DStv channel 106) will also air all three movies in the trilogy, which star Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and Sofia Coppola, amongst several other celebrated names.

  • The Godfather airs on Friday 6 May at 21:55
  • The Godfather Part II airs on Saturday 7 May at 21:50
  • The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone airs on Sunday 8 May at 21:35
