Melissa McCarthy is Hollywood’s new sweetheart, snapping up starring roles left, right and centre. Catch her in the title role of your #SundayNightMovie, Tammy, on 13 September at 20:05 on M-Net and 20:30 on M-Net Movies Premiere.
Far from being the conventional Hollywood heroine, McCarthy has carved a niche for herself in Tinseltown using her comedic talent and timing. As Bridesmaids proved, she’s also great as part of an ensemble cast, but she won’t easily play second fiddle to a male star.
Tammy marks another casting triumph, casting her in the lead role. Nevertheless, she’s definitely a sport and is surrounded by an esteemed cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Allison Janney, Kathy Bates and Dan Aykroyd.
It’s particularly interesting that the latter forms part of Tammy’s cast, seeing as McCarthy is set to co-star in the Ghostbusters remake in 2016, a movie that starred Akroyd in the original and for which he co-wrote the script.
Like Akroyd, McCarthy is pretty involved behind the scenes as well. For Tammy she took on producing duties, and wrote the script with director Ben Falcone. She’s done a bit of directing herself, having helmed three episodes of Mike and Molly.
Make sure you catch Melissa McCarthy take on more comedy in Tammy this Sunday, 13 September, at 20:05 on M-Net and 20:30 on M-Net Movies Premiere.
