First up, naturally, her Blind Audition:

The then 18-year-old set out her stall from the start, performing Koos Kombuis’s classic ‘Lisa se Klavier’, a surprisingly mature choice and one that proved her penchant for Afrikaans songs. Almost-immediate turns from three Coaches indicated that hers was a rather special Voice! When Riana turned at the last, Tasché had a full house.

While she had initially betrayed a preference for the latter (and had Riky learning some vital Afrikaans in a bid to secure her), she opted for Francois – his first ever four-chair turn and one that served him well in the competition!

Next up: the KnockOuts:

Proof that Tasché can sing English as well as Afrikaans, this Brandi Carlile number in the KnockOuts was, er knockout! Her Coach basically clapped throughout, and both LIRA and Riky were definitely poised to steal her.

Francois had little choice but to “do the right thing”, as Riky had urged – “I’m 100% sure I wanna send Tasché to the Safe Zone,” he said. And with that, Tasché was in the Live Shows!

Now in focus, Live Show 5:

Melancholic yet positive, Johannes Kerkorrel’s wonderful ‘Hillbrow’ is a plea for tolerance from the ‘80s and was even a hit in Belgium. Once again showing a maturity well beyond her years, Tasché absolutely nailed the standard.

Her stately performance, replete with the iconic Hillbrow tower on the LED screens, was praised by Riana for its emotional heft, and clearly resonated with The Voice SA audience – she was definitely firing on all cylinders!

Next, the second-to-last Live Show:

It was her birthday – she turned 19! In an insert before the performance, Coach Francois described her as “a natural” and “phenomenal” – “she has everything it takes to be a superstar.” As a song choice, Bonnie Tyler was boss – and because this was her final performance before the final vote, this could have been the clincher performance.

Starting out as a slow burn, Tasché soon launched into the raspy rock chick we know she can be – with a judicious dose of gospel thrown in for good measure. A standing ovation later, Riky told her that if he was appointing a cabinet, she’s be Minister of Music – “I hope South Africa pushes you all the way.” Her Coach thanked her for “delivering every time.”

The finale:

This was pretty special. For the finale, the Top 5 had been paired up to duet with industry heavyweights, and she revealed that the only person she wanted to duet with was “legit: Francois. It’s like a dream come true.”

The song they performed was pretty special too. As we reported a few weeks back, “Toe Vind Ek Jou” is one of the biggest Afrikaans songs ever, with 8 million view on YouTube. Adding to its allure, it was Francois’ first ever solo track and it was performed with former The Voice SA Coach Karen Zoid!

“She definitely made the song her own,” Francois revealed in a pre-performance insert. And boy, did she! Written for his wife, this power ballad that puts The Voice front and centre – and these two were in natural harmony!

A bonus:

It’s one of the biggest tunes of recent times, but Tasché and Yahto’s version of ‘A Star is Born’ Oscar winner ‘Shallow’ is every bit as fine as the Gaga/Cooper original!
