Crammed with even more quotable quotes, the second episode of From Dusk Till Dawn delivered another bout of teeth and terror. To reassert that the vampires – or culebras as they’re called in the show – are on a whole other level, there was a particularly juicy scene of Lord Amancio Malvado snacking on a mere mortal.
Thrust back into the gloomy depths of the show’s infamous strip club, we not only got to see more of Malvado, but bid a welcome return to Professor Aiden Tanner, AKA Sex Machine, and Carlos Madrigal.
Trailing after the latter was Scott Fuller, desperately trying to claw his way to the top of the culebra underworld. If the episode’s final scene was anything to go by, Carlos will turn out to be quite the tutor.
Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez was also on the scene again, tormented by the events of the previous season; and who could blame him? He’s lost his partner, and is desperate to protect his wife and baby from the ever-present terrors he’s encountered.
Undisputedly standing out as the episode’s top moment was Danny Trejo’s introduction as The Regulator. With countless Robert Rodriguez movies to his name, the actor’s appearance in the show was more than inevitable – it was expected; and his entrance was worthy of his reputation.
After The Regulator’s grisly, but unforgettable, entrance he uses a particularly gruesome but ingeniously-conceived method to find Seth, on the run with Kate. Before long, the encounter is turned into a blood-spattered, culebra-exploding spectacle.
Seth and Kate manage to escape The Regulator, as well as a bungled robbery attempt; but whether they’ll get out of Mexico and rescue their respective brothers remains to be seen.
