The South African film My Father’s War will be released in cinemas nationwide on Friday 5 August. An English- and Afrikaans-language film, it focuses on the broken relationship between a father and his rebellious teen-age son.

Set in 2003, it follows 19-year-old Dap Smit (Edwin van der Walt) who is constantly bickering with his father Dawid (Stian Bam), a veteran of the South African Border War. The two do not see eye to eye and there appears to be no hope of reconciliation between them. Meanwhile, Dawid's wife, Karina (Erica Wessels), finds herself caught in the middle.

However, after Dap has a series of dreams, his perspective starts changing. In the dreams he sees himself as a combat soldier in the war, and meets his father as a young man. Dap's dreams change his life, and his altered perspective leaves him wondering about his path ahead.
