And together they planned one of the most brazen prison breaks in the history of South Africa.ย Now, questions are being asked by the public, journalists and government as more details surrounding this grand prison break come to light. On Wednesday 12 April 2023, private security company and owner of the private Mangaung prison in the Free State appeared before Parliament to answer some tough questions. The company, along with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Judicial Inspectorate for Correctional Services (JICS),ย submitted the following reports to Parliament consisting of timelines, internal investigations and actions taken following the Bester's escape.ย
