Cape Town-based singer Ashur Petersen and his mom Madeegha Anders (who has also been singing since she was a teenager) have gone viral with a duet of “A Whole New World” from the soundtrack to Disney classic, Alladin.

Uploaded on 2 June, the clip now has over five million watches! He even made a video thanking people when it hit one million views.

In another post on his Facebook page, he wrote: “A friend of mine messaged me to say: “This is HUGE for Cape Town” and then it hit me. This video is far bigger than my mom and myself. This is for my people. The Capetonians. For my people who never gets recognized.”

Ashur is the son of slain music legend Taliep, and sang his father’s song “Queen of Hearts” in the Knockouts.

He didn’t make it into Francois’s Live Show team, but was saved in the Strepsils Knockout Viewers’ vote, and then in Viewers’ Battle.

Unfortunately, after Battling Soné in the first Live Show, the Co-Coaches decided to take her further, and his Voice journey ended.

Here's THAT viral clip:
