The competition is heating up in M-Net’s Dancing with the Stars SA. From last Sunday’s spectacular performances in the show’s live extravaganza, it was clear that the remaining celebrities and their professional dancing partners were adamantly stepping it up to remain in the game. The esteemed panel of judges noticed the improvements and gave some of the highest scores to date; but will the stars be able to keep it up when mastering a new dance style this week?
Their biggest fear of course is ending up in the dreaded dance-off: when the bottom two dancing couples, as determined by the judges’ scores and viewers’ votes, have to persuade the internationally acclaimed judging panel of Bryan Watson, Debbie Turner, Jason Gilkison, and Tebogo Kgobokoe that they deserve to stay in the competition.
Last week, Protea Netball goal shooter Vanes-Mari du Toit found herself in this precarious position. Rugby player Thando Manana and Suidooster star Eden Classens can also attest that ending up in the dance-off is no fun. Will they be safe this week? It all depends on their moves – and those of the other dancing pairs!
The nine couples hoping to win the judges and viewers over with their new show-stopping dance moves are:
Actor and model, Eden Classens and his partner Ash-Leigh Hunter will be sweeping across the dance floor with the Viennese waltz, which will also be performed by television actress Zola Nombona and Tebogo Mashilo, while screen and stage personality Frank Opperman and Jeanné Swart entertain the audience with American Smooth.
Radio host and former Miss SA Liesl Laurie and her partner Ryan Hammond will bring drama and beautiful body shapes with the Paso Doble, the French dance style that proved to be Eden and Ash-Leigh’s best performance yet.
Then, for the first time in the competition, former Blue Bulls rugby player Thando Manana and his partner Michelle Oppenshaw will be bringing sexy back with a sultry samba.
Singer and songwriter Connell Cruise will be flowing across the dancefloor with Marcella Solimeo as they perform the foxtrot this week. Protea Netball goal shooter, Vanes-Mari du Toit and her partner Johannes Radebe will be playing with passion as they perform the tango.
Retired Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley and Angelique Allison, as well as silver screen actress Juanita De Villiers and her partner Johan Dippenaar tackle the jive. This particular dance style pushed Connell to the top of the leaderboard last week and Frank to the bottom of the leaderboard in the week prior. Tune in to see how Delron and Juanita interpret this fun and spirited Latin dance!
