bruce Fordyce

The winner of nine Comrades marathons, an endurance runner and a passion for making a difference in the lives of people. These are some of the words used to describe the king of  the Comrades, Bruce Fordyce.

After his first Comrades in 1977 he thought he would never race again. It was too hard and it took its toll on his body. But the greatest adventure of his life, running, had him back on the tracks a week later training for the next year. Hi hard work was rewarded; making it into the Top 10 in 1978.

It wasn’t long before he was first across the finish line. And went on to win it nine more times!

                                                                           What makes Bruce a winner?

From his years in boarding school he learned endurance. By not seeing his family for extended periods of time, he learned to be tough and this has contributed to his strength as an endurance runner.

He has always has a single-minded conviction about things he was passionate about. To win at the highest level, he knew he had to focus and not deviate from his plans.

Discipline is everything. From balancing his school and family life, he learned to keep to a strict routine of running seesion and training.

For Bruce,  he considers himself very fortunate to have found something wonderful to do that he loves.  And get the greatest reward from doing it!
