This year marks fifty years since man first landed on the moon, on 20 July 1969. This Sunday remembers that moment with the movie First Man. Based on James R. Hansen’s biography First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong, it follows humankind’s mission to land on the moon. But it’s less about the rah-rah of this historic exploit and more about the challenges faced by those on the ground, both at work and at home.

Ryan Gosling plays Armstrong, with Claire Foy cast as his first wife, Janet Shearon Armstrong. They’re supported by a strong host of Hollywood’s finest portraying fellow astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Jim Lovell, amongst many others involved in this terrific feat.

Fun Fact: He's quite the creature feature actor, having appeared in 2005's King Kong and this year's Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as Mark Russell. Next year he'll reprise his role as Russell, in Godzilla vs. Kong.
