Angelina Jolie in a forest

She's a multi-award-winning actress and a Hollywood star who has taken on impressive roles over the past three decades. Her poise, beauty, and acting are remarkable, and she cleverly embodies every character she takes on. We're looking at Jolie's best roles.

Lisa – Girl, Interrupted

Jolie starred alongside the lovely Winona Ryder in this thought-provoking 1999 film centring on the trials and tribulations of a group of women in a psychiatric institution. She took on the role of a young and rebellious patient named Lisa, who is diagnosed as a sociopath. Jolie nailed the role and her raw, emotional, and hard-hitting scenes earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Lara Croft  – Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

One of Jolie's most successful roles to date was when she took on the role of the famous video game character Lara Croft in the 2001 live-action film. Jolie did strenuous training to get in top shape for the role and did some of the stunts on her own. Her look also embodied the video game character very well and the audience praised the striking resemblance. The movie was one of the highest-grossing movies at the box office in 2001. Jolie also appeared in the 2003 sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, which also saw success.

Jolie's gorgeous signature cheekbones came in very handy for this role as she brought to life this amazing fairytale character in 2014. It was as if she was born for the role and she made us fall in love and sympathise with the fairytale villain very much. The audience was whisked into a magical world that told a different side to the story of Maleficent. In interviews, Jolie has said she could relate to the misunderstood character of Maleficent as she also felt misunderstood over the years in her career and personal life.

Amelia – The Bone Collector

In this 1999 thriller, Jolie starred alongside the amazing Denzel Washington as a rookie NYPD patrol officer who has to hunt down a vicious serial killer. Her character Amelia becomes the eyes and ears to Washington's character Lincoln Rhyme who has become bed-bound and cannot carry on the case himself. The scenes were chilling, the case was brutal, Jolie made one tough cop, and Washington and Jolie's chemistry was phenomenal.

Jane Smith – Mr and Mrs Smith

Jolie starred alongside her then-husband Brad Pitt in this 2005 romantic action comedy that had Brangelina fans swooning. When two married assassins realise they are assigned to kill each other by their competing assassin agencies, things get rather crazy and a dangerous and adventurous cat and mouse game ensues. Naturally, Jolie and Pitt shared great onscreen chemistry and the movie quickly became a box office hit.
