On Saturday 15 August fans of crime shows and DC comic books can Binge on Season 1 of Gotham from 18:00 on M-Net Edge.

It’s followed by the Season 2 Binge of Orange is the New Black at 21:00, with The Blacklist Season 2 Binge Weekend continuing on Sunday from 18:00.

For fans of Gotham, here are a few interesting facts about the cast and characters to keep you entertained until your Binge Weekends start.

  1. Ben McKenzie (James Gordon)

McKenzie’s career took off with his role as Ryan Atwood in teen TV show, The O.C. However, before he went on to play Gordon in Gotham he portrayed someone else from the dark city: Bruce Wayne and his alter ego. McKenzie lent his vocal talents to the animation Batman: Year One, opposite Bryan Cranston as Jim Gordon.

  1. Jada Pinkett-Smith (Fish Mooney)

It seems even stars have to work hard to get the parts they want, because Pinkett-Smith took a man on a leash to her audition for Gotham. Clearly she was willing to do whatever it took to land the role.

3. Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth)

The character’s original name was Thaddeus Crane, which now serves as Alfred’s middle name. Pennyworth is derived from Alfred believing his life was only worth a penny.

  1. Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin)

Considering his character, Taylor employs a funny wobble as part of his physical characterisation. To achieve his limp he places a bottle cap in his right shoe, causing just enough pain to create an uneasy walk. It’s an old Hollywood trick! To convey a feeling of discomfort for his role in The Rainmaker, Matt Damon put pebbles into his shoes.

  1. Camren Bicondova (Selina “Cat Kyle)

Who better to employ the feline movements of Selina “Cat” Kyle than a dancer? Bicondova is not only a model and actress, but a dancer too. Her group, 8 Flavahz, was runner-up on Season 7 of America's Best Dance Crew and she also featured in the dance drama Battlefield America.

  1. Cory Michael Smith (Edward Nygma/The Riddler)

Smith starred opposite Emilia Clarke (who plays the mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones) on stage in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
