Brothers Russell (Christian Bale) and Rodney (Casey Affleck) are pursued relentlessly by demons from a dark past: Russell had caused the death of innocent people while driving drunk, and Rodney suffered deep mental scars as a combat soldier. There seems to be no clear way out.
