Last Sunday, the Carte Blanche team received the tragic news that we had lost one of our own.

Michael Duffett was a gifted and multi-award winning producer who had worked for the show for almost two decades.

We would like to take this moment to pay tribute to him: a dedicated and compassionate storyteller and treasured colleague. While his name might not be familiar to you, his stories most certainly will be.

He produced a remarkable body of work: tracking down scamsters, exposing the dark underbelly of the drugs trade, documenting the final moments of people suffering terminal illness.  The subjects were varied and often complex, but he brought to each an enviable level of empathy for the people whose stories he told.
He seemed to make it his life’s mission to give a platform to the downtrodden, the neglected, and maligned.

Michael was enigmatic, some might say eccentric.  But, as a colleague and one of many, many friends put it this week, “he was impossible not to love”.
We will miss him.  We will miss his work. And we offer our deepest condolences to his wife, Najma, his brothers Jonathan and Ronnie, and the rest of his extended family.

May he rest in peace.
