Cameras, cops and cages – how does a city crack down on crime when the perpetrators are unpredictable and elusive, and the victims are a moving target? That’s the dilemma facing the City of Cape Town as attacks on motorists persist along the notorious N2 and other routes. The City’s latest solution is a multimillion-rand wall alongside a section of the highway running mainly through the Cape Flats. But critics argue the money would be better spent on social upliftment, while the city says it needs an engineering solution to the crisis.
