Itโs been more than 30 years since the first Jurassic Park movie graced our screens and gave us a movie that would live on for decades to come and lead to many exciting sequels. From the cast to the music to the magnificent dinosaurs,ย we think the first movie qualifies as a masterpiece and many fans and critics would agree.ย
With the sixth instalment, Jurassic World Dominion, coming up this weekend on M-Net, it's the perfect time to walk down memory lane (and back into the park) with the first movie, simply titledย Jurassic Park.
The theme music
The themeย Journey to the Island was composed by musical genius John Williams and sendsย waves of nostalgia whenever you hearย it play. It captures the feel of the forest and the emotions of the first sightingย of the captivating dinosaurs. This themeย is widely considered one of Williams's most impressive and memorable pieces. This iconic themeย has different variations and is used in all the Jurassic movies.

The dinosaurs
Back in 1993, the dinosaurs were made with the use of animatronics and computer-generated imagery. Director Steven Spielberg joined forces with character creator Stan Winston, who was the expert behind bringing the dinosaurs to life along with a highly skilled team. Part of the process involved the team creatingย metal skeletonsย that were powered by hydraulics and electric motors.ย Full-sized dinosaurs were sculpted from clay, and the team moulded the sculpturesย and developed foam latex skin for the robots.ย The latex skin was fitted over the animatronics and painted.ย It took a team of puppeteers to control the dinosaurs for the scenes.
The cast
The original main cast consisted of actors Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, BD Wong, and Richard Attenborough, and child actors Ariana Richardsย andย Joseph Mazzello. Neill, Dern, Goldblum, and Wongย all make their return in Jurassic Worldย Dominion to feed the nostalgia. BD Wong has reprised his role in all three instalments of the new franchise and Goldblum also briefly starred alongside Wong in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

The merchandise
If you went to the shops in the early '90s you were bound to come across Jurassic Park T-shirts, caps, sneakers, and many other sorts of Jurassic Park memorabilia. The franchise also had popular video games that took over many arcades during that era. Some arcades still have the older Jurassic Park video games.ย Pretty cool, right?
The movie was based on the bestselling novelย Jurassic Park which was written by Michael Crichton. The bookย isย still widely read and bought all over the world.
