He’s the long-serving mayor the Western Cape’s worst performing municipality. That’s despite being convicted of statutory rape and the indecent assault of a 15-year-old girl. His name is Jeffrey Donson. While our law prevents registered sex offenders from working with vulnerable people in schools or hospitals, there’s no legislation that disqualifies them from working in public office if their conviction didn’t land them behind bars.
