M-Net Channel 101 is renowned for bringing viewers the very best in international entertainment and this month, the channel premieres three brand-new international series: Gaslit (Monday 13 Feb at 20:00), After the Trial (Thursday 16 Feb at 22:00) and The Calling (Monday 27 Feb at 22:00).
This is in addition to The Tourist (Wednesdays at 22:00), which premiered earlier this month.
Topping the list of brand-new must-see TV is the American thriller Gaslit, where for the first time Hollywood greats Julia Roberts and Sean Penn share the screen in this shockingly true story. The series is a slightly different take on the 1970s political Watergate scandal, circling untold stories and forgotten characters of the time.
Academy Award winner Roberts stars as 'Mouth of the South' Martha Mitchell, who freely airs her opinions, oftentimes to the press and at inopportune times for her husband, John. Fellow Academy Award winner Penn plays John Mitchell, President Nixon's attorney general in early 1970, who is caught up in the Watergate cover-up.
The 8-episode series will also be available on DStv Catch up.
In addition to Roberts and Penn, the main cast also includes Dan Stevens as John Dean; Betty Gilpin as Mo Dean; Shea Whigham as G. Gordon Liddy; and Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell.
Gaslit is a political thriller based on the first season of the podcast Slow Burn by Leon Neyfakh. The series is created by Robbie Pickering and directed by Matt Ross. Executive producers are Robbie Pickering, Matt Ross, Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton, Julia Roberts, Gabriel Roth, and Josh Levin.
The series holds an average rating of 7.40/10 on Rotten Tomatoes, with the website's consensus declaring: "Fronted by a nervy Julia Roberts, Gaslit is less a slow burn than an acting extravaganza of big personalities enmeshed in historic scandal."
Five reasons why you need to watch Gaslit:
1. A-listers Julia Roberts and Sean Penn share the screen for the very first time in powerhouse performances
