Everyone loves rooting for the overlooked character who beats the odds to come out victorious.Â
Let’s look at some of the most memorable underdogs in movies.
Remy – Ratatouille
Ratatouille is a classic underdog tale. Remy (Patton Oswalt), a food-obsessed rat dreams of becoming a chef but must first overcome several challenges in a rodent-phobic profession.
To achieve his dream, Remy gets someone else to cover for the fact that he's a rat.
At Gusteau’s, a once grand restaurant that has fallen into trouble since the death of its chef, Remy teaches the kitchen workers to prepare dishes that impress a food critic.Â
Soon he's dream is realised, and he becomes a renowned chef and restores Gusteau’s to its former glory.
Daniel – The Karate Kid (1984)
Tired of being bullied, Daniel (Ralph Macchio) asks Mr Miyagi (Pat Morita), a martial arts master to offer him karate lessons. In a brutal tournament, the underestimated Daniel goes on to face his main bully, Johnny (William Michael Zabka) and kicks his butt. Not only does he become a champion, but gains respect from his opponents.
Hank – Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank
Hank (Michael Cera) faces rejection for being a dog in a village full of cats. As if that’s not enough, the underdog must assume the role of village samurai by teaming up with the cats to stop a ruthless villain from wiping the village off the map.
With help from a reluctant trainer, Hank shocks everyone when he rises above the hate and becomes the best samurai in the village.
In Rumble, Winnie seeks to follow in her father's footsteps by coaching a loveable underdog monster into a top dog.
