Girls with horses

"To see a fine lady upon a white horse." Do you remember that catchy line from the traditional English nursery rhyme, To Ride a Cock Horse to Banbury Cross? Horses are magnificent creatures. We find them in books, poems, plays, movies, and shows. Historically, horses were the first-known mode of transport and played a big role in people's daily lives. The horses in King & Conqueror are often a part of epic battle scenes and the characters use them to get around the land to go about their royal business. Let's have a look at some memorable horses ridden by classic female characters.

Edith's horse in King & Conqueror

This beauty ridden by Edith is an Icelandic horse. The show was filmed in Iceland, therefore Icelandic horses were used during shooting. Edith is brave and bold and can handle a horse and stand by her husband Harold no matter what.

Interesting fact: The cast members had to undergo intensive horse-riding training. Actor James Norton (Harold Godwinson) suffered an injury after falling from a horse during a rehearsal. Norton made a quick recovery, or should we say he got back on that horse ...

Asfaloth in The Lord of The Rings

This majestic and magical creature was Arwen's (Liv Tyler) beloved horse. Both Asfaloth and Arwen shared an incredible beauty and aura that was wonderfully captured on screen. One of the most memorable moments from the movie was when Arwen and her horse rescued and carried a wounded Frodo to Rivendell.

The horse in Runaway Bride

While we never quite got the name of this horse, he gave us one of the most memorable movie moments. Romcom fans still talk about Julia Roberts's epic wedding escape where she ditched walking down the aisle and rode away on this beautiful chap instead.

Major in Cinderella

A girl, a glass slipper, and her horse. While Julia Roberts ran away from love, Cinderella (Lily James) rode towards love upon her horse Major to meet her prince in the woods. What's a princess without her horse after all!?

Pie in National Velvet

The horse and little girl that captured our hearts in the classical 1944 film. Velvet Brown (played by a very young Elizabeth Taylor) trains her beloved horse Pie in hopes of winning the Grand National horse-race, but learns a far more valuable lesson in the end.

Pilgrim in The Horse Whisperer

Nineties kids hold a special place in their hearts for Grace (Scarlett Johansson) and her horse Pilgrim. When both Grace and Pilgrim are injured in a freak accident, they embark on an emotional journey of healing and resilience with the help of a horse whisperer played by the incredible Robert Redford.
