Maithili Shome jetted off to India to represent South Africa in Zee TV’s singing competition show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016.

Maithili Shome from Johannesburg, South Africa, jetted off to India in April to represent South Africa in Zee TV’s singing competition show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016.

Maithili was selected to take part in a special international segment on the show. She did South Africa proud by becoming one of the international contestants to make it on screen.

"Zee Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2016 is no less than a dream come true. On the 23rd of March 2016, when I returned home from school, my father told me that I had been selected to come to Mumbai for the most prestigious platform. I couldn't believe it. I was so excited that I couldn't sleep... couldn't eat or focus on anything other than music.

I just wanted to be here. Despite this, I had a fear of the unknown and many unanswered questions in my mind. I heard about the heat and the very humid climate in Mumbai. The weather, the place, the food, the training and the people. Initially, the communication was a barrier but now I have started picking up Hindi like never before. I was welcomed with warm smiles, love and affection which made it easier for me to adjust to the environment around me.

The energy around here is always very positive. Our Gurus are always concerned about our progress and they keep in touch at all times. My days are filled with Riyaz, training and different musical exposures," says Shome.

Maithili is now back home and has become Zee TV Africa’s very own Sa Re Ga Ma Pa International Golden Girl. This is just another way for Zee TV Africa to promote our local talent and give these young stars a chance to reach their goals and dreams.

“Zee TV is the only Indian General Entertainment Channel with an active footprint in Africa. Zee promotes all Indian diaspora to get more involved with Indian culture. Zee gives African Indians the opportunity not to miss out on any activities happening in India.

Our philosophy is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which means the world is my family – the world is one family and this is why we want to bring Bollywood closer to our viewers here in Africa,” says Zee TV Africa CEO Harish Goyal.

Be sure to catch Maithili’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa performance this weekend on Zee TV Africa (452), DStv Indian.
