This week on VIA (147), not one but two popular TV shows are coming to an end and crowning their final winners. Décor show Stylstryd and entrepreneurial challenge Brood en botter aired their first-season finales this week, with both a style and a foodie battle coming to an end.

Dentist-turned-interior-designer Danie Rossouw was crowned the winner of the first season of Stylstryd, a show on which aspiring stylists are given a shot at showing of their styling skills in SA’s popular home-and-garden magazine TUIS.

“I’m very excited to have been part of the Stylstryd experience and show,” Danie says. “I hope the tips and ideas I’ve shared on Stylstryd will help people see that with the right layout, anything can look better.”

Danie truly showed his mettle in the Stylstryd finale as the four finalists were thrown a major curve ball: after selecting décor and furniture for their assigned rooms, the finalists had to swap spaces and styles. Despite the tough challenge, Danie’s room impressed TUIS editor-in-chief Wicus Pretorius enough to walk away with the title of Stylstryd champion and the opportunity to be a stylist in TUIS magazine. “I’m really looking forward to it,” Danie says. “It’s going to be fun to be in a real house and to work with someone’s own décor and items to create a beautiful space.”

Stylstryd fans who’d love to know more about Danie should make sure they get their hands on the April issue of TUIS.

On VIA’s much-loved Brood en botter, eight teams of food entrepreneurs were given a chance at nabbing a major prize: making their business part of the the popular food emporium at the Spice Route wine estate just outside the Boland town of Paarl. The Brood en botter finale was a true Mexican stand-off with two teams of Mexican food entrepreneurs – the cool dudes of Santa Anna’s and the mother-daughter team Savant – fighting for the spot. Abigail Bisogno, the matriarch of Spice Route, made her final decision on Monday and welcomed Santa Anna’s Piet Marais and Frik Oosthuizen to the Spice Route family.

“It’s always fun to win and this year has been an especially interesting year because I’ve also won Ultimate Braai Master with my buddy John Grundlingh,” Piet says. “It’s been a gees experience!”

While Santa Anna’s eatery has not yet been set up at Spice Route, Piet and Frik promise big things are coming our way.

“Frik and I have recently met with Charles and Abigail Back of Spice Route to discuss the possibilities and it seems like this is going to be bigger than we thought. But we haven’t settled anything yet so watch this space,” Piet reveals.

Good news: the second season of Stylstryd starts Monday 22 February and a second season of Brood en botter is also in the works! Keep your eyes on VIA TV on Facebook and @viatv on Twitter more information.
