Take a trip through the Abbey as we highlight some of our favourite things about the show.
Season four of Downton Abbey has kicked off on BBC Entertainment. Be sure to tune in Sundays at 21:00 on BBC Entertainment for scintillating drama from the Abby. But before then, take a trip with us as we highlight some of the best things about Downton Abbey:
What would the Dowager do?
Maggie Smith who plays the sharp-tongued Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley is our absolute favourite! She’s an expert straight talker who chooses to not use her filter at the most opportune moments - resulting in plenty of awkward situations and viewers wanting to high-five her for her ability to not sugar-coat anything.
The Abbey itself
Next up we have to give praise to the Highclere Castle where Downton Abbey is filmed on location. The grandeur of the castle, as well as its perfectly manicured lawns, provides the ideal backdrop for all the drama to unfold.
Serving with sass
For a period drama, this show’s got plenty of sass: with everyone from the maids, to Lord of Downton Robert Crawley having to dish it out, as well as take it. Every cast member has got a sassy streak; yes even grumpy old Mr Carson.
We love the way the Crawleys and Granthams do outings - whether it’s a picnic in the park, a hunting trip or a short journey across country, they know how to do it in style with more than one servant in toe, a hoard of luggage and a horse and cart full of supplies.
Last but not least, you’ve got to love the delicate fashion from Downton Abbey. Ladies Mary, Edith, Cora and even Violet don delicate gowns and dresses made from lace and bejewelled finery. In the season four premiere, Edith took centre stage with her VIP trips to London - showing off some of the most intricate and elegant attire.
