The members of South Korean boy group, BTS.

Who is BTS? We're going to give you a quick lowdown on the South Korean boy group the world can't get enough of!

BTS are heading to The Ellen Show (weekdays at 17:00 on Vuzu and streaming live on DStv Now)! We’re here to educate you on the South Korean boy group that everyone’s talking about so you can join the ARMY fandom.

They started the conversation during their stint at the 2017 Billboard Awards but their recent performance of their hit song DNA at the 2017 American Music Awards have catapulted the boys into an international frenzy as everyone wonders, who is BTS?

Behind the name

BTS (Bangtan Sonyeondan in Korean, Bangtan Boys or Bulletproof Boys in English) is a 7-member South Korean boy group. Debuting in June 2013, the BTS boys have been working insanely hard and have broken through to the international market in the recent year. It’s been a while since a South Korean act has caused this much attention since Psy’s Gangnam Style viral hit.

The boys

BTS consists of RM (formerly Rap Monster), V, Suga, Jimin, Jungkook, J-Hope and Jin. RM is known as the leader and often is the guy you’ll see speaking in their interviews in the West due to him being fluent. Don’t worry, the boys are working on learning English – just give them time. For now, you can enjoy the moments they do try to say something in English – it’s pretty cute.

Their music

BTS have been on the scene for a good minute so if you’re new to their music, expect a great amount of tunes to enjoy. They’ve released several EPs, three Korean albums and two Japanese albums with over 20 singles released, these boys are killing the music game. Want to immerse yourself even more into the BTS scene? Some of the members have solo projects to enjoy too including RM and Suga.

Standing for Adorable Representative M.C for Youth, otherwise known as ARMY this is the fandom name that was officially announced by the group back in 2013. What’s the meaning behind the name? Well, in English army refers to military and the thinking behind the name is that the fans will always be with BTS similar to how the military always needs their body of armour to be fully complete.

Social media power

Between Instagram and Twitter alone, these boys are ruling social media! With 10.5 million followers on Twitter and 6.9 million followers on Instagram, we bet these numbers are going to increase rapidly. Let’s not forget the hundreds of thousands of fan accounts thrown in the mix keeping us all updated on where and what BTS is up to next. ARMY power was the reason they won the Top Social Artist award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards!

We hope you’ve learned a thing or two about the boys of BTS! Keep an eye out on The Ellen Show on Wednesday 29 November at 17:00 on Vuzu and streaming live on DStv Now to see them perform their latest hit Mic Drop remixed by Steve Aoki and talk to funny woman Ellen DeGeneres.
