Celebrating eight years of family fun, the pulsating energy of the DStv Mitchells Plain Festival will see Westridge Gardens come alive with activity from Friday 25 November to Sunday 27 November 2016. This year, 40 000 people are expected to attend the three-day family event in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the community of Mitchells Plain.
The event is a vibrant cultural extravaganza created with the entire family in mind. Known as the area's largest festival of music, dance and exhibitions by small business owners; it gives businesses, consumers and the community of Mitchells Plain a platform to celebrate the rich history, creativity and diversity of the Cape Flats.
Festival promoter Rozario Brown says: “Our partnership with prominent brands like DStv is extremely important to us. It has elevated the festival to new heights. Eight years on and we’re overwhelmed by the attendance, the community support and their contributions to the growth of the festival. And as a thank you and a cheers to 40 years of Mitchells Plain, this year’s event will be even bigger and better!”
Some of the biggest festival attractions include a car show, where young people will get an opportunity to show off their modified wheels; and two fascinating air shows by the SA Air Force. 60 popular DJ’s and entertainers will entertain festival-goers on stage; and Heart 104.9 FM will broadcast live from the show grounds.
DStv and kykNET will bring the faces from popular soap, Suidooster, to meet and greet fans and take pictures at a photo booth. If you’re a fan of the Samsodien-family and regularly tune in on weeknights at 18:00 (simulcast on kykNET and kykNET & kie), then you will finally have an opportunity to get to know them up close and personal.
“We love partnering with the Mitchells Plain Festival, one of the most exciting events in the area, to bring on-screen content like Suidooster to life and reward our customers for their support with three days of fun for the whole family. Many of these customers have our DStv Family package, so it’s a great way for us to say thank you,” says Nomsa Chabeli Mazibuko, General Manager for Marketing at MultiChoice. DStv customers can also look forward to plenty of familiar DStv faces for that epic selfie moment.
If you can’t make it to the festival, the DStv Family package will still keep every member of the family entertained with more than 60 channels to choose from, including favourites like kykNET & kie, general entertainment channels like M-Net Family, TLC Entertainment and Mzansi Wethu; Cartoon Network and Disney Junior for the kids and Nat Geo Wild for nature lovers.
The DStv Mitchells Plain Festival promises to have something for everyone - from DIY, home decor and renovations, a kiddies corner, travel, health, to fashion and beauty. And of course a delectable variety of food and catering.
Gates open at 09:00 every day this weekend. Tickets are available via Computicket, Shoprite or Checkers at R44 for adults and R22 for kids under the age of 12. Kids under five and pensioners enter for free. Visit mitchellsplainfestival.com for more information.
