Watch the performances of the Bollywood legend in four movies.

The Bollywood legend Sridevi tragically passed away on 24 February 2018, but you can watch her performances in four movies during the weekend 10 – 11 March on Zee TV (DStv Channel 452).

The beloved actress was also a film producer, and was often referred to as Indian cinema’s ‘first female superstar’. She was the recipient of two Filmfare Awards and three Filmfare Awards South.

In the 1980s and 1990s she was ranked as one of the highest-paid actors. Sridevi was awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian accolade for her contributions to the entertainment industry, by the Government of India in 2013. Also in 2013, in a poll conducted by CNN-IBN on the occasion of the centenary of Indian cinema, she was voted ‘India’s Greatest Actress in 100 Years’.

The film was the highest-grossing Indian film of 1987, and remains a cult classic in India. Known for several of its lines and songs – this included Sridevi's Miss Hawa Hawaii performance.  The song is very popular even today.  Mr. India has often been featured in different lists of top Bollywood films.  Indiatimes Movies ranks the movie amongst the Top 25 Must See Bollywood Films

 

Chaalbaaz, Saturday 10 March at 22:00

Chaalbaaz is a 1989 classic comedy film featuring Sridevi in a double role. The film tells the story of two separated twin sisters, Anju who is badly treated and abused by her uncle, while Manju is a savvy street smart girl. The movie was regarded as one of Sridevi's finest performances. The film also starred Rajinikanth, Sunny Deol and Anupam Kher and was one of the biggest commercial and critical successes of the year and also the film's music became a big hit especially 'Naa Jaane Kaha Se Aye Hain'.

 

Mom, Sunday 11 March at 15:00

Mom is a 2017 thriller film produced by Sridevi’s husband Boney KapoorSridevi plays a vigilante, who sets out to avenge her daughter Arya, played by Sajal Ali. Arya is brutally attacked by a group of rich students from her school.   Mom marked Sridevi's 300th, and final major role appearance before her death on 24 February 2018.  The film was released in July last year and received positive reviews from film critics. It was successful commercially as well.  Sridevi was highly lauded for her performance in the film with Times of India saying that the actress "demonstrates why she is the high-priestess of Indian cinema”.

 

Vinglish, Sunday 11 March at 22:00

English Vinglish is a 2012 Indian comedy-drama, written and directed by Gauri Shinde. The film revolves around a woman named Shashi, a small entrepreneur who makes snacks. Shashi enrols in an English-speaking course to stop her husband and daughter mocking her lack of English skills and gains self-respect in the process. The protagonist, played by Sridevi, was inspired by Shinde's mother. The film marked Sridevi's return to filmmaking after a 15-year hiatus. The film earned global acclaim at several international festivals and Sridevi was hailed as the "Meryl Streep of India.”
