Currently Elizabeth Smart is a child activist and she's also a contributor to ABC News. In this movie I am Elizabeth Smart, Elizabeth herself serves as a producer and onscreen narrator in order to explore how she survived and confronts the truths and misconceptions about her captivity.

What happened to Elizabeth? 

On 22 June 2004, 14-year-old Elizabeth Ann Smart (Alana Boden) is abducted from her home in Salt Lake City by religious fanatic Brian David Mitchell (Skeet Ulrich). Mitchell brought her to a hilly encampment where, alongside his twisted accomplice Wanda Barzee (Deirdre Lovejoy), he held Elizabeth captive. Over the course of her nine-month captivity, she was starved, drugged, raped and subjected to bizarre religious rituals until she enabled her own rescue.
