Soweto TV welcomes Tim Modise as he joins the refreshed channel.

Legendary journalist and broadcaster Tim Modise has partnered with Soweto TV to produce and host his own weekly current affairs show on channel 251.

The respected voice of the Power FM breakfast show will steer the national dialogue on his new show, Tonight With Tim Modise, on Thursdays from 26 November at 19:30.

The one-hour talk show, launching this week, will explore relevant, current topics that South Africans are talking about, and set the new agenda.

Personal Empowerment, Community, National and Global topics will be among the issues covered on Tonight With Tim Modise. The experienced broadcaster has received numourous accolades, including SABC’s Best Broadcaster in Radio and MTN Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award. Tim has worked as columnist, analyst and leader of public campaigns, such as Proudly South African.

“I feel good and pretty excited about the show. It’s going to be good for the audience. It’s an opportunity for people to understand the events that shape our lives. It’s an opportunity to inspire, to create as well as to connect individuals and communities. The show will also serve to provide educational information, entertain and offer key insights on trends that are emerging in the world today,” he said.

Modise said the weekly window on South African life would not be restricted to current affairs as such, but be more of a news magazine show. “So it won’t just be news or topics of the day but will also focus on the economy, personal wellbeing, influential individuals, and it promises to end on a somewhat personal and light note,” said Modise .

The content for Tonight With Tim Modise will be informed by current topical issues of public interest, eg quality of education, electricity issues, health care, crime, global trends and issues such as climate change, empowerment of women etc.

“Modise’s return to television is part of exciting new changes at Soweto TV, which recently underwent a brand refresh. Along with the updated look and feel, the station is proud to introduce great new content of which Tonight With Tim Modise will be key,” said Station Manager Wandi Nzimande.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tim to Soweto TV. He brings with him a great knowledge and wealth of experience which fully aligns with our key vision at Soweto TV. This show is about continuing to give the viewers an opportunity, insights and information about issues affecting their everyday lives and will assist them in making positive decisions affecting their communities.”

Chairperson of the Soweto TV Board Meshack Mosia echoed Nzimande’s sentiments adding:

“Indeed, as Soweto TV we are very excited to connect with Tim Modise in a partnership that promises to be a milestone for the channel and the community we serve. On behalf of the Soweto TV board, management and staff I take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Tim for his humbleness, professionalism and vision by agreeing to associate his brand with brand Soweto TV and we wish him all the best in this ground breaking partnership in the South African community television space.”
