Based on novels by Maureen Jennings, William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) is a methodical and dashing detective who pioneers innovative forensic techniques to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders, while struggling against tradition and prejudice. Step into this intriguing world set in Toronto at the dawn of the 20th century, and get a glimpse of the evolving manners of Victorian-turned-Edwardian society. Real history is an important element in most episodes, and the plots, though fictitious, sometimes involve real people, including Alexander Graham Bell and Hellen Keller,

Murdoch’s colleagues and valuable allies include:

Dr Julia Ogden – his beloved wife, fiery and fiercely intelligent

Constable George Crabtree – his eager but naïve right-hand man

Inspector Thomas Brackenreid – his skeptical yet reluctantly supportive boss

Rebecca James – a resourceful young morgue assistant

Season 11 begins with Murdoch jailed and framed for the murder of a burlesque dancer. His constables were gunned down in an ambush, Brackenreid was last seen with a gun to his head, and the corrupt politician and his cronies responsible kidnapped Ogden. Murdoch must prove his innocence from behind bars, as Detective Llewellyn Watts helps covertly to solve the case.
