Season 12 will be the final season of the popular comedy series, The Big Bang Theory.
It looks as if rumors of more seasons for The Big Bang Theory didn't come to pass, as it has been announced that Season 12 of the highly acclaimed series will be its last. The final season of The Big Bang Theory will air in May 2019.
After over 270 episodes, making it TV's longest running multi-camera sitcom, and a prequel spin-off in the form of Young Sheldon, the gang are ready to say a final goodbye with the last season.
The news comes just weeks after it was hinted that there could be more seasons of The Big Bang Theory to come in the future, but sadly that will not be the case.
“We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close,” WBTV, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions said in a joint statement.

Why the decision to end The Big Bang Theory? It seems to be largely due to creative decisions and a desire to "going out on top" when many series are failing to pull in the numbers. Not only that, but contracts negotiations for the cast would have been very interesting, given that the main cast currently get paid US $1 million per episode - the highest for any cast on a television series.
