MTV Base, DStv channel 322 is bringing back Shuga with the lives of young African millennials and has wowed young audiences with relatable topics like sexual health education and gender based violence.

Last year Shuga went down south as it was shot in South Africa for the very first time. The star cast included Clint Brink, Thuso Mbedu and Samkelisiwe Makhoba who was discovered at the show's public auditions in Johannesburg. Samke played a preacher’s daughter Khensani who was having an affair with a married school teacher.

We all know Thuso Mbedu as a ninja on Is'thunzi, a role for which she got nominated an Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress. 



Which other stars have appeared on Shuga?
While you’re watching the first season of Shuga which was shot in Kenya, you may be surprised to see the award-winning Lupita Nyong’o who played a beautiful, lively college student Ayira who was with two men at the same time. We all know that she's moved on to star in leading roles like 12 Years A Slave which she won an Oscar for and recently Black Panther as Nakia. Watch the interview below as she speaks about what went on behind-the-scenes and afrofuturism: 

Musician Tiwa Savage also appeared on the ShugaNaija in 2013, her first acting role. She starred as Sade Banjo. She hasn't made waves on the acting front but her music career is soaring to great heights. She signed a deal with Jay Z's Roc Nation in 2016 and she's also won awards like MTV MAMA for Best Female and the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Female Artist of the Year both in 2014. She recently has a track out with Wizkid and Spellz called Ma Lo.

Other musicians who have appeared on Shuga include Ice Prince, Kwesta, Fifi Cooper and Patoranking and Reminisce who also created a theme song for MTV Shuga S3.
