A step-by-step guide to a Downton Abbey 1920's inspired hairstyle, for the amateur hairstylist.
Grab your glass of champagne and cheers to the premiere of Downton Abbey Season 4 on Sunday 12 April at 21:00 on BBC Entertainment (DStv Channel 120). We are going all out and donning 1920’s dresses and hairstyles.
Follow the step-by-step guide to achieve a Downton Abbey 1920’s inspired hairstyle, for the everyday girl and amateur hairstylist, like me.
- Brush or Comb
- Flat Iron
- Hair Elastics
- Hair Spray
- Assortment of hair pins
- Best for unwashed hair
- Suitable for hair longer than shoulder length
- Brush and straighten your hair
- Practice makes perfect - it took a lot of bobby pins to make my roll look like one
Part the hair in 4 sections: 3 even sectioned pony tails tied at the nape of the neck and 1 side part section at the front, temporarily secure with large hairclip.
Roll each pony tail up toward the head, use a large bobby pin to anchor and smaller bobby pins to secure.
Pinch all the rolls together with bobby pins. Pin all sides to create a uniformed connected roll, and to secure.
Side profile of secure and pinned roll.
Now we going to add some classic S-Curls to the 1920's updo, using our front side section.
Divide the front side part section into smaller sections, spray with hairspray, use two fingers and roll the hair up to your head, and then clamp with a flat iron.
(I pinned my bangs under the front side part section).
You almost there.
Pin and secure your front section S-Curls. Congrats you have a 1920's Downton Abbey inspired hairstyle.
Enjoy your new hairstyle and the season four premiere of Downton Abbey on Sunday 12 April at 21:00 CAT on BBC Entertainment (DStv Channel 120).
We don't take any responsibility for flirtatious behaviour coming your way and for any burn marks from your flat iron.
