Catch every drive, chip and putt in the final round as an elite field featuring some of the world’s top golfers slug it out for a big payday under African skies in the $7.5 million (R106.2 million) Nedbank Golf Challenge live from the Gary Player Country Club, Sun City on Sunday 12 November – only on your Channel of Champions.
It’s for a very good reason that the third round of a golf tournament is traditionally referred to as the ‘moving day’.
And that was the case on a sweltering day three of ‘Africa’s Major’ at the Gary Player Country Club layout at Sun City on Saturday.
Tune in for the live Nedbank Golf Challenge coverage of the final round on Friday 10 November-Sunday 12 November daily from 09:00 on SS1 (DStv Channel 201 streaming live on DStv Now). Highlights on DStv Catch Up later.
In near perfect conditions, Scott Jamieson (Scotland) carded a bogey-free 67, to top the leader board heading into Sunday’s final round on eight-under-par.
By contrast, overnight leader Victor Dubuisson (France) turned in a very patchy scorecard -- a one-under-par 71 -- to remain within a single shot of the lead.
There were a fair deal of South African contenders’ names drifting up and down the leader board through the day, but the flag flying highest right now among the hometown favourites is Branden Grace.
Grace, currently ranked 34th in the Race to Dubai standings, dropped two shots – one on each loop -- for a four under-par 68 and a share of third on five-under-par with two-time Major winner and past NGC winner Martin Kaymer.
The Italian Francesco Molinari and another South African Haydn Porteous, are two shots further back.
If Grace can make a fast start on Sunday it may not be too unrealistic to think that the first South African name may be engraved on the famous NGC trophy for the first time since 2007 (Trevor Immelman).
This is one of those events you grow up watching as a South African and the one you want to win most in SA. It’s Africa’s major for a reason and one of those you have to play well to win,” said Grace.
Other South African Scores (Round and Overall): Louis Ooosthuizen 70 (-2), Charl Schwartzel 72 (-2), Richard Sterne 69 (-1), Darren Fichardt 75 (-1), Dylan Frittelli 69 (+3), George Coetzee 72 (+4), Dean Burmester 71 (+4), Brandon Stone 75 (+14).
