Six years later, the game has changed and Mzansi Magic is at the forefront, setting trends by creating TV to talk about.
Since its launch in 2010, Mzansi Magic has been focused on being the viewer’s choice through unique, fascinating and authentic content. Six years later, the game has changed and Mzansi Magic is at the forefront, setting trends by creating TV to talk about. In an ever-changing world of television, audiences have become more demanding, more specific about what they want and how they want it.
“We are excited by the challenge of creating compelling television. We have learnt that viewers have a different appetite for content, as a broadcaster, it is our duty to align our offering with the needs of the viewers. Our aim is to create shows that get people talking and we have done just that,” says Nkateko Mabaso, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net.
Mzansi Magic has boldly stepped into the realm of reality television, continuously pushing boundaries while remaining true to the essence of entertainment. With a variety of shows such as Our Perfect Wedding, Date My Family, that continuously own Sunday night viewing and makes the television playing field more interesting. If these were not enough to break the internet, the unveiling of the country’s new crop of best of breed musicians in Idols SA Season 12, will have viewers on the edge of their seats.
Monday night viewing follows suit as the amplified storytelling heaps on excitement and intrigue into the world of drama with a compelling new Xhosa drama, Isikizi - which tackles the issues of fate versus free will and the importance of honouring one’s heritage. While our dramas are fictional, they draw from nostalgic fables which our viewers can identify with.
“The new channel imaging, brand advert and pay-off line being revealed today are a big part of the positioning journey we have undertaken to offer the best content and channel proposition for our viewers,” explains Mabaso.
The rapidly growing viewers of telenovelas - Isibaya, Ring of Lies and Greed and Desire - can continue enjoying their viewing experience in high definition quality, which certainly makes a huge impact.
We have it all - quality, variety, authentic stories that entertain Mzansi now. Mzansi Magic Uzogcwala, channel 161.
