This year’s Miss South Africa Pageant celebrates six decades of glamour and style, and will be held at Sun Arena, Time Square. Watch Sunday 27 May at 17:00 on M-Net (DStv Channel 101) and streaming live on DStv Now or Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161) and streaming live on DStv Now.
The pageant this year will follow a new format. In previous years, the top three finalists were then selected as two princesses with one Miss SA. This year, from the top five finalists there will be two winners – one Miss World South Africa, and one Miss Universe South Africa. Both will go on to represent the country in each respective pageant. But, because there can only be one reigning Miss SA, the two winners are asked one final question – and the answer will determine who is crowned the official Miss SA 2018.
Liesl Laurie, crowned Miss SA in 2015, will be one of the judges this year. This is what she said:
I always get asked what my most memorable moment in Miss South Africa was.
And it always takes me back to the time I went home to my hometown of Eldorado Park.
I had a Guard of honour on two sides of the road and there was not one person in Eldorado Park doing anything else but welcoming me back.
Their People's Princess, as they called it. Their favourite person in the whole world and till today brings tears to my eyes, gets me very, very excited because...
...it tells me that we do live in a country of love, of Ubuntu and all we need to do, all we need sometimes is just that story of hope, that story of love and the story that shows you anything is possible.
Just look at me.
And when asked about her top three favourite shows:
Grey’s Anatomy – Very relatable. Catch Up on DStv Now
For the People – New show that is on at the moment. She loves anything that Shonda Rhimes creates and being a part of Shondaland. Watch on 1Magic (DStv channel 103) and streaming live on DStv Now Mondays at 20:30
