From starring in a hit comedy series to playing a lead in a Disney Channel Original Movie, Meg Donnelly is living her best life. The young actress made time to chat to DStv about the new movie role, what to expect and her love for Japan.

You know her as Taylor in American Housewife, now Meg Donnelly is Addison in the new Disney Channel Original Movie Zombies premiering on Saturday 12 May at 10:40 on Disney Channel and streaming online on DStv Now. Meg is making us proud with her growing list of acting credits - not forgetting that you can hear her sing in Zombies too!

Ready for the fun? Zombies sees two worlds collide when a human girl and a zombie fall in love. Can their groups of friends and family co-exist in a world of both zombies and humans? It won't be an easy feat convincing each other, but we can't wait to see how it plays out in this brand new DCOM coming to Disney Channel on DStv Channel 303.

We had an exclusive chat with Meg to find out about the new role, joining the Disney Channel family and her love for all things Japanese.

Welcome to the Disney Channel family! What’s it been like to be a part of a Disney Channel Original Movie like Zombies?

My entire life I’ve dreamed of being on Disney Channel, especially a Disney Channel Original Movie that delivers such a powerful message and includes music and choreography. Growing up, High School Musical was such a huge part of my life and I always wanted to be Gabriella. So the fact that I was able to do this, and also do a movie that has such a strong message that’s so prominent in the music and dancing is just such an honour. It’s crazy!

Tell us a little about Addison – are you similar to her in any way?

I think we’re similar in that we’re both very optimistic, outgoing and motivated. We are different though, as she’s a hard core cheerleader and has trained for that her whole life. I’ve trained doing acting and singing my whole life, so we have that training similarity. Also Addison is really brave, I’m definitely not as brave as she is. I definitely learned a lot from playing her, and hopefully young girls will too, for the better.

From the aesthetics with the filming to the catchy songs, what were some of your favourite things about filming Zombies?

There are so many. All the dancing rehearsals and singing was so much fun. Recording the songs, and working with all the cast and crew was so incredible. I truly had the time of my life.

When it came to shooting the film, how long did it take and do you have any interesting stories to share from set?

Filming took three months, with four weeks of rehearsals and six weeks of shooting. Being on set was just so much fun. Trevor Tordjman, who plays Bucky, was just constantly making me laugh to the point where I was crying because I was laughing so hard. We shot on the football field for about two weeks, and we were in a tent with air conditioning because it was so hot outside. We just had the craziest memories in that tent, playing card games and laughing.

What are three things about you we may not know?

- I love to surf and paddle board, any water sports really!

- I speak Japanese

- I love coffee!

When you’re not working, what do you like to get up to?

I love writing music, I’ve been doing that a lot recently. I love listening to music, I always have some music on. I like hanging out with friends and family, or dancing. That’s really fun!

We know you’re learning Japanese, how is it going? Do you have any trips planned to Japan soon? Ganbatte (good luck)!

It’s going really well! I have an online tutor, although I used to just watch YouTube videos and I also have friends from America living in Japan. I FaceTime them and they help me also. I’m going to Japan late June, early July.  I’m really excited as I’ve always wanted to go, even before I started learning Japanese. I have a lot of friends there so I’ll be able to see them, and hopefully see some sights.

It sounds like a story from a movie, but there was a boy band that came to Japan from my school who were filming a Japanese reality show based on their time in America. They didn’t know any English, so I helped them learn English and they taught me some Japanese.

I’m really excited to see all of the famous temples and landmarks, as well as going shopping. Their fashion is incredible. I’m excited to hang out with my friends that are there and meet new people. Oh and the food, I love sushi!
