We had a chat with Cycle House trainers Nick Hounslow and Nichelle Hines from E!'s Hollywood Cycle.
Hollywood Cycle, Fridays at 20:00 on E! (124), has taken reality TV by storm! Picture this: ridiculously strong trainers, celebs, rivalry and a little spinning too! It's the recipe for an intense show.
We chatted to trainers Nichelle Hines and Nick Hounslow about what it was like to shout at some of the most famous people in Hollywood:
Nichelle: CRO (Chief Ride Officer)
When asked what got her into training, she replied: “I had to get myself together.” When she did, she lost 22kg! If that isn’t motivation, I don’t know what is. Nichelle says that, in order to motivate yourself, you need to ask yourself: “Why would you show up? What are you gonna do?”
“It’s great to help people get better, get to the next level,” she said, “that’s why we’re here. Tough love is definitely needed. You don’t have to be the best but you have to be your best. I don’t believe in excuses.”
And with the show airing more than just the training side, Nichelle noted that: “There’s a lot of intensity and passion. We’ve all got strong personalities. People sometimes think I’m a b*tch, I don’t think I am – I care about what’s best for people,” stated Nichelle.
The intensity runs high on the show with drama spinning it’s way from the classes to the clubs. But the best thing about Hollywood Cycle is that, as Nichelle noted, it’s an equaliser: “As soon as celebrities come in, they’re just people in the class!”
I never leave home without: An extra change of clothes. If I’m working out, I take normal clothes and if I’m not, I take workout clothes.
My guilty pleasure would definitely be: Ice-cream! No hesitation with that one!
When I’m not at Cycle House, I’m most likely: At home with friends, watching some murder mystery.
“When I was 17 I was a model in London and giving gym classes was a way to go to the gym for free,” laughed Nick, explaining the roundabout way he got into instructing.
“Don’t be fooled by the English accent. There needs to be a balance of pushing and motivation” when training people to become the best they can be.
My highlight so far was probably opening the doors to Cycle House four years ago this October,” said Nick. With sold out classes and celebs rolling in, it soon became a well-known brand. With top names hitting the bikes, it’s no wonder you have to book way in advance to get into these classes. Nicole Kidman even took Nick on holiday with her as her personal trainer!
“It doesn’t matter who you are in the class,” said Nick, “I will yell at you.”
“There’s camaraderie and rivalry in training for who can sell out their classes first,” noted Nick, “a lot like sibling banter.”
Not only does the show cover the Cycle House, it also covers the personal lives of the trainers. Audiences can see the business as well as the lifestyle. Emotions run high!
The idea for Hollywood Cycle originally came from the producer, who is friends with Nick and Nichelle. “We thought she was mad,” but she wanted to show what went down.
“I gym to unwind, I guess you could say it’s my yoga. And I love running the Hollywood reservoir trail. After five years of living here, the view still never gets old,” said the ridiculously fit Nick.
I never leave home without: Protein powder
My guilty pleasure would definitely be: Sugar
When I’m not at Cycle House, I’m most likely: At shoots or castings.
Be sure to catch Hollywood Cycle on Fridays at 20:00 on E! Entertainment (DStv channel 124) for all the blood sweat, more sweat and tears.
