Idols SA 2015 winner Karabo Mogane has recorded a South African version of the official theme song to Disney Junior’s (309) hit animated series The Lion Guard.

Disney Africa announced that Idols SA 2015 winner Karabo Mogane has recorded a special proudly South African version of the official theme song to Disney Junior’s (309) hit animated series The Lion Guard – a brand new original TV series inspired by the all-time family favourite Disney classic, The Lion King.

Titled Here Comes the Lion Guard, the theme track is written by long-time Disney collaborator Beau Black and features the same African djembe drum beats and Swahili nuances that made the previous two Lion King soundtracks so popular.

Karabo was also on hand to host a fun-filled screening of The Lion Guard: Return of the Road at Cresta Shopping Centre in Johannesburg. Check it out:

The first person in Africa to lend their voice to a Disney Junior theme track, Karabo made a name for himself and proved his musical talent when he won over the hearts of the South African nation which secured him as winner of the 11th season of Idols South Africa last year.

“I was totally blown away when Disney asked me to record the theme song for The Lion Guard. I grew up with The Lion King movies as a child, and to now be asked to sing the theme song for this new series that continues that epic storytelling is a real honour,” says Karabo.

“We are thrilled that Karabo has lent his immense talent and distinctive voice to The Lion Guard,” said Christine Service, Senior Vice President and Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa. “Being able to bring our content to life in this uniquely local way really adds another dimension to this series that not only entertains but also incorporates conservation, family and community and diversity.”

"The story of The Lion King has deeply touched families on the continent since its original theatrical release 20 years ago and with The Lion Guard, we look forward to introducing a whole new generation of kids to both the Disney legacy characters and to new friends and heroes.” continued Service.

The Lion Guard introduces viewers to Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, who assumed the role of leader of the Lion Guard, a group of the bravest and brightest tasked with preserving the Pride Lands. Instead of assembling a team of young lions to serve with him, Kion challenged tradition by calling upon friends he believes are the best choices – Bunga, a fearless honey badger; Fuli, a confident cheetah; Beshte, a happy-go-lucky hippo; and Ono, an intellectual egret. Stories will include special appearances by Mufasa, Timon, Pumbaa, Rafiki, Zazu and Kion's older sister, Kiara, the future Queen of the Pride Lands.

The Lion Guard airs every week day on Disney Junior (309) at 18:30.
